Couple of Mac Tips
![]() |
First we have an article entitled Mixed Computing: Stop Thumbs.db and .DS_Store files from Polluting Network Shares on UNEASYSilence. The article goes through the steps to turn off thumbnail creation in Windows to prevent it from creating Thumbs.db files and also to prevent Mac OS X from creating .DS_Store file creation at least on network shares. An Apple Knowledge base article further discusses this procedure and its possible ramifications. It sure would be nice not to have to see these files, but I am not sure its worth the trouble. |
The other tip involves the Apple Remote. MacInstruct has an article entitled Stupid Apple Remote Tricks which describes a couple things you can do with your Apple remote. For me, the most important was also outlined by this Apple Knowledge base article which was pairing the Apple remote with your computer. I learned the value of this when I was watching a movie on the Mac Book Pro and went to pause it with the remote. This then also caused iTunes on my iMac to resume playing. I then taught my housemate the value of pairing by pausing his iTunes a couple of times from across the house.
