Wii60 Complete
![]() |
Since today was the release day for the Xbox 360 Elite, I headed down to Target to try my luck. I have been wanting a 360 for a while, but have been putting it off for a variety of reasons. I finally decided I was getting tired of waiting. I wanted the Elite model mostly because it was black and the bigger hard drive just in case I find a need for the space. Besides even Apple charges a premium for black over white when you buy a MacBook, so it has to be worth extra, right? |
When I got to Target about two minutes before opening, there was a line of about twenty people and a Target employee with tickets. The man in front of me got the first Xbox 360 Elite ticket and I got the second. Target had decided to release their inventory of Wiis on the same day and they only had four Elites, anyway. I would guesstimate they had about thirty Wiis today and by the time I had checked out, they had sold fourteen. Impressive that a console released over six months ago still has that kind of demand. I didn’t see anybody else get the remaining 360 Elites, but it hasn’t changed enough from the original models that were released over a year and a half ago to warrant most folks upgrading, so I guess it isn’t too surprising. More pictures, etc. once I manage to get that done.
So my Wii60 is complete. There is even a site dedicated to both the consoles aptly named Wii60.com. Engadget and Gizmodo have done a good job covering the 360 Elite’s release and exact spec differences if you want to know more. Now its time for my long awaited TV rewiring as the Elite doesn’t come with composite video cable, only HDMI and component.
Update:
Upon further examination of the component cable, there is a composite output as well to allow me to plug it into the front of my TV and fiddle before The Great Rewiring.

Congratulations!! Kind of cool that you scored one on release day.
Did you get an extended warranty? Aside from cost, one of the big reasons I’ve avoided the 360 so far is the hardware failures. Now that Costco doesn’t have a lifetime guarantee on them, I’m doubly hesitant to buy a 360.

Ah man! We were driving to the movies Sunday morning and joked that we should swing by Target in case they had Wiis. Looks like that would have been a good idea. They were all gone by mid-afternoon.

Ars gave the Elite a IX for first time buyers in their review. Been having fun with Viva PiƱata and I downloaded Catan Live as mentions by DrFaulken a few days ago. I only have had a chance to play one game and let me tell you, easy is very easy. The interface seemed pretty solid with trading being very logical.
