The Teamaker from Eva Solo has a couple of nifty features that make this glass teapot worthy of a slightly deeper look. The pot allows for two methods of steeping tea. You can either utilize the restrictive infuser method which has a plunger to compress the leaves at the bottom in attempt to limit the leaves contact with the water. You can also just put the leaves at the bottom of the pot and have them strained off automatically when pouring. The other noteworthy feature of this pot is that it comes with either a khaki, chili red or chocolate colored sweater/jumper or a black neoprene cover to help keep the steeping tea hot. You can buy the Eva Solo Tea Maker with sweaters from WhereDidYouBuyThat.com for $109, you can get it with sweaters or a black neoprene cover from Unica Home also for $109 or you can get the black neoprene version with four tumblers from Wrapables Amazon store front for $115. |

Sweet! But $109? I dunno ’bout that.

The Amazon reviews are not kind. The plunger mechanism doesn’t isolate the spent leaves well enough, resulting in bitter tea.
It would probably work fine without the plunger, but, then would an old jar.

This guy does have a couple of advantages over an old jar even with the plunger being seemingly useless. It does have a happy pouring filter thingy to prevent leaves from making it to your cup. The swanky sweater or neoprene jumper should help keep it better insulated though I am not sure it would be comprable to ceramic or cast iron pots. And I find it asthetically pleasing and I am not entirely sure why. Still $109 does seem high and I wonder if those sweaters are dry clean only…
The Amazon reviews were pretty negative, but they were all looking for the plunger system to solve all of their problems even though one reveiwer already had a Bodum Tea Press and was apparently happy with it. I just want a pot where I can steep tea without having to put it into a little metal/glass infuser for more then one person that can hold heat well enough for that duration and doesnt require extra hardware to strain the leaves off. While it would be nice to have a pot which could hold tea for longer then the initial pour, I still haven’t seen a pot that give the tea complete access to the water during brewing and then has some creative way of completely removing this access at the end.
