List of Deficient or Obsolete Bridges

Filed under: Destruction, Links — roclar @ 5:50 pm
US-13 St. Georges Bridge Less then a day after the I-35 bridge collapsed in Minnesota, MSNBC posted a list of of “deficient” or “obsolete” bridges. As I mentioned in my BodyGard 5-In-1 Emergency Tool post, going over bridges makes me nervous anyway. Seeing a bridge actually collapse with traffic on it isn’t going to help. Take a look at the list and panic plan accordingly if you can figure out what bridges they are referring to. The bridge to the left is the US-13 St. Georges Bridge and as best as I can tell, its not on the list at all, but it looks cool.

  1. This one into Charleston SC always used to freak me out:
    John P. Grace Memorial Bridge

They replaced it and possibly its brother in 2005 with this puppy:
    Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge

  2. Here are the Wikipedia entries for these bridges:

Apparently the John P. Grace Memorial Bridge scored a 4 out of 100 or an F in safety. Good stuff… At least they replaced it before it fell down.

  3. Here’s a Quicktime VR pano of the I-35W bridge and the surrounding metro area:

A friend of my step-brother drove under it just before it collapsed. Saw it come down in his rear-view mirror.
