To mark the seventieth anniversary of the diaries of George Orwell, The Orwell Prize is publishing his diary entries exactly seventy years after they were written. Orwell’s ‘domestic’ diaries began on 9th August 1938/2008; his ‘political’ diaries begin on 7th September 1938/2008. Thus far the entries have largely consisted of talk of snakes and the weather though I imagine the political entries will be more interesting. Posting the diary entries in this method seems rather original though it does seem rather curious that the diary entries penned by the creator of “Big Brother” are now a target for my RSS reader. |
