Business Card Menger Sponge

Filed under: Art, Links — roclar @ 2:06 pm
Dr. Jeannine Moseley Business Card Menger Sponge To complete today’s cube trifecta we have the Business Card Menger Sponge. In 1995, Dr. Jeannine Mosely, a software engineer, set out to create a level/depth three Menger Sponge which is the first 3D fractal that mathematicians became aware of. The resulting structure was built from 66,048 business cards folded into 8,000 interlinked sub-cubes. The sponge is 54″ cubed, weighs about 150 lbs. and took nine years to build “involving hundreds of folders all over America.”
