As a followup to their high bounce ball commercial set in San Franscico last year, Sony decided to trade in the balls for paint. Filmed July 2006 in Glasgow, Scotland, the comercial runs for just over a minute. 70,000 liters of paint was used in 358 bottle bombs, 33 sextuple air cluster bombs, 22 triple hung cluster bombs, 268 mortars, 33 triple mortars and 22 double mortars. The main building in the shoot was due for demolition, so they didn’t have to worry about cleaning it up, but they did have sixty people work five days to clean up. The paint was a special water-based paint that was much easier to cleanup once the water had evaporated. While I think Sony’s business is languishing these days, they sure can put together one heck of a commercial. Warning: If you have coulrophobia you may not want to watch this as a clown does make an appearance. |

According to Duncan’s TV the music in this commercial is from Rossini’s “Thieving Magpie” coordinated by Peter Raeburn at Soundtree Music, London. I don’t know why that was so hard to find.
