Every once in a while I run across a product that I just don’t understand. Why would anybody want to be greeted upon entering their bathroom with a curtain full of steaks. Clearly this is not a product for vegetarians, and what carnivore/omnivore wants to be thinking about food when using the facilities or taking a shower? Should this be appealing to anybody, this curtain is available from Merch-Bot.com for $18. |

Using traditional tweezers especially to remove splinters definitely requires copious amounts of lighting to ensure successful removal. So I can see the motivation for a pair of tweezers that have the necessary lighting already built in. Still, the $25 that Hammacher Schlemmer is charging for the pictured tweezers to the left seems a bit pricey. It does seem that they are a little unwieldy as far as tweezers go given they are almost 5″ long and over 1″ wide. There are other illuminated tweezers on the market such as La Tweez which sells for $12 or Avon’s Light It Up! Slanted Tweezer which they sell for $10.T |

The Drop Bath Light by the Japanese company Dream, Inc. is another entry in switch-less bath lights that are activated when set in water. This LED illuminated droplet gently cycles through the color spectrum whenever water or other suitable conductor completes the circuit at the bottom. The drop measures 6.14″ x 5.35″ x 5.35″ and is powered by three AAA batteries. For more pictures and information in Japanese, check out Dreams, Inc’s catalogue page on their site. The Drop Bath Light is available in .us for $39 or in .jp directly from Dreams, Inc. for a little over $23. |

Given that my shower is less then 10′ away from my hot water heater and it takes less then 15 seconds for the warm water to reach my shower even in winter, this wouldn’t be helpful for me but I can see its purpose. Rather then wait in the shower for the hot water to arrive or turn the shower on and waste hot water while you are performing other tasks elsewhere, the ShowerStart automatically pauses a running shower once it gets warm. Once you return to the shower, simply flip the switch on the ShowerStart and resume the hot water flow and take your shower. The folks at ShowerStart LLC estimate that a family of three could save around $75 in hot water heating costs assuming they save one minute of water per shower. The ShowerStart is available from the manufacturer or R. E. Williams Contractor Inc. for $40. |

This is a couple of years old, but the Hansacanyon Chrome LED Basin Mixer is still pretty nifty. The TechEBlog declared it as the world’s first color changing LED faucet. As the water running through it gets warmer, the LEDs change the water color from blue to red with purple in between. Of course a snazzy looking faucet such as this with the temperature control and sensing LEDs isn’t going to be cheap. The Hansacanyon Chrome LED Basin Mixer can be purchased from Ira Wood & Sons for $1628. |
