Swiss Army Spectrum Series Ballpoint Pens

Filed under: GIMPs, Light & Illuminated Objects, Links — roclar @ 8:57 am
Swiss Army Spectrum Pens Though I cannot find a product page for this on either the Wenger or Victorinox sites, these pens do look pretty slick. Rather then trying to cram a writing utensil inside a knife, the Swiss Army spectrum crams a few blades into the base of a colored pen including: knife, scissors, file, and screwdriver. Also a “power light” is included which is activated by pressing the Swiss cross. The Swiss Army Spectrum Series Ballpoint Pens are available for $50.

Mosquito Mega Catch

Filed under: GIMPs, Links, Pets & Animals — roclar @ 8:57 pm
skeeters B gone If you are finding that the typical candle or spray mosquito repellants are getting it done or you are looking for an easier alternative, the Mosquito Mega Catch from Hammacher Schlemmer could be the solution you seek. The Mega Catch uses octenol, a UV bulb, LEDs and power to attract the mosquitos then sucks them into its holding zone for disposal. The octenol strips have to be replaced every 3 weeks worth of use at a cost of $20. The Mosquito Mega Catch itself retails for $200.

Alternate Shoelace Knots

Filed under: GIMPs, Links — roclar @ 9:23 pm
alternate shoe knots This might be something worth fiddling with at the desk the next time I am stuck on a long (re: two minutes or more) phone call and need a way to entertain myself. Being tall, shoelaces coming untied can be quite annoying as its a long way down to reach my feet.

EaseOut Lightbulb Remover

Filed under: GIMPs, Links — roclar @ 7:52 am
non-conductive way to remove your lightbulb stump For $8 from Taylor Gifts you can secure a non-conductive means to remove lightbulb stumps from their socket. Even though it is only $8, even if I broke every lightbulb I tried to change I am not sure I would use such device enough to justify its purchase.

SawStop

Filed under: GIMPs, Links — roclar @ 4:31 pm
SawStop Ever since I saw For the Love of the Game where Kevin Costner’s character gets seriously injured using a table saw, I have viewed the devices with a newfound…respect. This table saw purports to change all that. The SawStop detects changes in electrical currents. When they change, the blade stops and retracts in 3-5ms. Watch the SawStop Video of a sausage coming in contact with the blade, it barely gets nicked. This 10″ saw blade cabinet weighes in at $2800 and reportedly works with any saw blade.

completely wireless eyeball cam of doom This creation of ODF Optronics Ltd. is a wireless camera about the size of a baseball that you can toss well wherever and see what it sees. Such convenience has a price though as a pair of them will set you back $4,800.

butterfly knot This online guide punishingly named I Will Knot! has instructions that I think even I could follow for tying basic knots. Each knot has text and flash instructions on how to complete each step of the knot.

Popular Mechanics: HowTo Survive Archive

Filed under: GIMPs, Links — roclar @ 10:24 am
run!!! Popular Mechanics has an archive of HowTo survive various worst-case scenarios. While this site is a little dated with the most recent entry being posted in mid ‘04 and most seem to be adapted from the Worst-Case Survival series they are interesting reads.

Hippo Water Roller

20 gallons just rolling on the ground In sharp contrast to the Rain Sky Shower from yesterday, we have a device which makes transporting water from the nearest river or waterhole back home. Instead of carrying a 5 gallon bucket on their head in the traditional fashion, you can add water to the 20 gallon drum and push it back home.
