The LED flashlight that is standard duty for the LAPD is now available for public purchase. The Pelican 7060 weighs 10 oz., has two switches which can both independently turn the flash light on and off, and a host of other nifty features aside from being pretty darn bright. The Pelican 7060 retails for $200, but you can buy it for less “on the streets” including for $140 from Pelican-Case.com or for $128 from BrightGuy.com. Of course there are many other providers of LED flashlights such as Sure Fire and Stream Light that have more variety. |

The National Library of Belarus is a curious looking structure that was just completed in 2006. The main component of the structure is in the shape of a rhombicuboctahedron which has 18 square faces and 8 triangular faces. The gallery linked below has some nice pictures of this interesting looking structure. Most importantly to me is that according to the LEDs Magazine article the library is illuminated by 4646 color-changing RGB LED fixtures. |

The Magic-Bulb Digital Alarm Clock combines timekeeping features and color-changing LEDs in a light bulb shaped package. The clock stands about 5.5″ high and is about 3.5″ wide and has the normal timepiece functions such as date, time, alarm and it even tells the temperature. The LEDs are powered by four AAA batteries and the clock functions are powered by 2 AG13 batteries. It also looks like there is a plug for an DC 6V adapter but it doesn’t appear to be included. |

The Nightlighter flashlight is designed to allow you to see where you are and where you are going. Being the klutz that I am I have found having a light source pointed at either the destination or my feet generally results in me either tripping over something or running into a wall. The Nightlighter uses two 5mm LEDs for illuminating the ground around you and a one watt “high output” LED for illuminating forward and is powered by three AA batteries which are included. The Nightlighter is available from First Street for $30. |

The Lite Table by Jellio is essentially a Lite-Brite in the form of an 18″ cube. The table has a 10 x 10 grid to hold 100 over-sized acrylic pegs that you can move around to form various patterns. Unlike the Lite-Brite of old, you have to find an additional light sours to illuminate the pegs. The Lite Table is pretty expensive considering it doesn’t provide it own illumination and sells directly from Jellio for $600. |
