The Swopper is yet another entry in the confusing arena of ergonomic seating options. While it kind of looks like a 1950s bar stool the Swopper has a fair amount of springy mobility. The chair is designed so that you should always be sitting correctly plus the chair forces the sitters back, abdominal and skeletal muscles be minimally yet constantly active so they don’t tense up. You can get the Swopper from either Amazon or WorkChairs.com from $500 to $700 depending the model plus more for accessories such as a chair back or wheels. |

As a followup to the War Planes Collection we have the Kitty Hawk ceiling fan from Emerson. Rather then emulate the nose and propeller of a plane, Emerson has chosen to emulate the bi-wing design of the Wright Brothers original plane. Besides the fancy blade design, a 52″ blade span and a “Deluxe Emerson K55XL motor”, the Kitty Hawk has most of the normal fan features like three speeds, reversible direction and a light fixture. You can get the Kitty Hawk ceiling fan in a maple finish from Hansen Wholesale for $638 or you can get cherry wings from CeilingFansontheWeb.com for $679. |

The Craftmade WarPlanes Collection are constructed to look like the rotors of old fighter planes. At present, the collection contains three different models. The first is modeled after a P-40 Tiger Shark and has three black blades and has camouflage, red and white coloring. The second is Glamorous Glen which was Chuck Yeager’s P-51D and features four black blades, a silver body with yellow and red accents. The third and final fan is modeled after the Miss America racing P-51D and has four white blades and is painted in red, white and blue. All three fans are lit by a single A-15 light bulb which is not included. You can get the WarPlanes collection from Farrey’s for $180 for any of the three fans. |

The usual problem presented by traditional desktop and floor fans is that they normally only move air from one side to the other. Unless you are positioned in the perfect spot, you aren’t going to receive the full effect of the fan and if you have loose, light objects or paper in that path, its going to get blown around. The Fargo by Fanimation attempts to eliminate both of these issues with one design. Rather then pull from the back and push out the front, the Fargo sucks air from the top and bottom and pushes it out 360° laterally. The Fargo comes in three finish and material combinations: bronze with antique brass, black with satin nickel, and satin nickel with chrome. The fan measures 20″ tall and 9″ in diameter, weighs 14 lbs. and has an 8′ power cord. The Fargo is available from Frontgate for $239 or you can pick one up from a variety of Amazon store fronts or other etaillers for roughly similar prices. |

The Paddy Chair brings the comfort of a padded cell to your living room. The chair was designed by Nick Melville for a group exhibition entitled “Dark Design” for DesignersBlock London 2005. The chair is made from medium density fiber-wood (MDF) and pine panels with solid pine legs, polyurethane foam and wadding, and cotton canvas upholstery. No measurements were provided, but from one of the pictures and the description it can seat two people. Since the Paddy Chair was designed as a “one-off project”, it isn’t readily available, though it can be made to order via Nick Melville’s site. |

The Obelisk Chairs from Dedon are comprised of four chairs of two different sizes and a side table. When not in use, rather then having to worry about storing them or having them take up a lot of space, you can stack them in their attractive obelisk form. The chairs are comprised of a powdered aluminum frame with the exterior made out of woven polyethylene. The Obelisk Chairs are available in the pictured color “stone” from the HGTV Market Place for $8,922. |
