Trey Chair

Filed under: Links, Other Furnishings — roclar @ 6:00 pm
Trey Chair A few weeks ago, Ars Technica had a review of an interesting chair called the Trey Chair which also included an interview with the chair’s creator Jeff Jameson. Like all Ars Technica reviews, it is pretty good and the interview was a pleasant bonus. The chair itself is rather interesting. It was designed for college dorm rooms, and having been a resident of said rooms for four years, I can certainly appreciate the positive points of its design for use in confined living spaces. As you can see in the picture, the seat portion separates from the base which can then be used to hold a laptop, food and drinks, feet or even be used as another seat. With the two parts together, it passes as a normal office chair. The Trey Chair is available directly from the manufacturer in standard fabric colors of black, black marble, billiard, espresso, indigo, and maroon for $239; faux leather in black, gunmetal, lake, and crimson for $269; and in premium fabrics drizzle and wink for $299.

Swopper

Filed under: Links, Other Furnishings — roclar @ 6:00 pm
Swopper Special Edition in Black and Red The Swopper is yet another entry in the confusing arena of ergonomic seating options. While it kind of looks like a 1950s bar stool the Swopper has a fair amount of springy mobility. The chair is designed so that you should always be sitting correctly plus the chair forces the sitters back, abdominal and skeletal muscles be minimally yet constantly active so they don’t tense up. You can get the Swopper from either Amazon or WorkChairs.com from $500 to $700 depending the model plus more for accessories such as a chair back or wheels.

Kitty Hawk Ceiling Fan

Filed under: Air Vehicles, Light & Illuminated Objects, Links, Other Furnishings — roclar @ 5:50 pm
Kitty Hawk Ceiling Fan by Emerson As a followup to the War Planes Collection we have the Kitty Hawk ceiling fan from Emerson. Rather then emulate the nose and propeller of a plane, Emerson has chosen to emulate the bi-wing design of the Wright Brothers original plane. Besides the fancy blade design, a 52″ blade span and a “Deluxe Emerson K55XL motor”, the Kitty Hawk has most of the normal fan features like three speeds, reversible direction and a light fixture. You can get the Kitty Hawk ceiling fan in a maple finish from Hansen Wholesale for $638 or you can get cherry wings from CeilingFansontheWeb.com for $679.

Solar System Chair

Filed under: Links, Other Furnishings, Space & Celestial Objects — roclar @ 8:00 am
Solar System Chair The Solar System Chair is a curious looking seating device. The chair is comprised of four differently sized balls that are filled with soft foam and finished with a synthetic velvet “for maximum comfort”. The chair measures 37.4″ x 34.6″ x 31.5″ and there is no mention on the various heights of the four spheres. The Solar System chair can be purchased from Drink Stuff in .uk for $196.

WarPlanes Fan Collection

Filed under: Air Vehicles, Links, Other Furnishings — roclar @ 8:00 am
WarPlanes Fan Collection The Craftmade WarPlanes Collection are constructed to look like the rotors of old fighter planes. At present, the collection contains three different models. The first is modeled after a P-40 Tiger Shark and has three black blades and has camouflage, red and white coloring. The second is Glamorous Glen which was Chuck Yeager’s P-51D and features four black blades, a silver body with yellow and red accents. The third and final fan is modeled after the Miss America racing P-51D and has four white blades and is painted in red, white and blue. All three fans are lit by a single A-15 light bulb which is not included. You can get the WarPlanes collection from Farrey’s for $180 for any of the three fans.

The Fargo

Filed under: Links, Other Furnishings — roclar @ 7:50 am
The Fargo by Fanimation The usual problem presented by traditional desktop and floor fans is that they normally only move air from one side to the other. Unless you are positioned in the perfect spot, you aren’t going to receive the full effect of the fan and if you have loose, light objects or paper in that path, its going to get blown around. The Fargo by Fanimation attempts to eliminate both of these issues with one design. Rather then pull from the back and push out the front, the Fargo sucks air from the top and bottom and pushes it out 360° laterally. The Fargo comes in three finish and material combinations: bronze with antique brass, black with satin nickel, and satin nickel with chrome. The fan measures 20″ tall and 9″ in diameter, weighs 14 lbs. and has an 8′ power cord. The Fargo is available from Frontgate for $239 or you can pick one up from a variety of Amazon store fronts or other etaillers for roughly similar prices.

Doctor Riter’s ErgoChair

Filed under: Links, Other Furnishings — roclar @ 7:50 am
Doctor Riter's ErgoChair With a large percentage of the work force chained to their computer and desk all day, ergonomics continues to be a big concern. Study on this subject has produced some odd looking products and Doctor Riter’s ErgoChair is no exception. The chair essentially amounts to an egg shaped exercise ball resting on a frame. Like all ergonomic products, the ErgoChair is designed to encourage you to maintain your natural posture. The armrest sites 26.75″ off of the floor and is 23.5″ across at the widest point and is “one size fits most” meaning that it isn’t designed for my gargantuan form. You can purchase Doctor Riter’s ErgoChair directly from the manufacturer or Modabode for $160 with free continental .us shipping.

Paddy Chair

Filed under: Links, Other Furnishings — roclar @ 7:55 am
Paddy Chair The Paddy Chair brings the comfort of a padded cell to your living room. The chair was designed by Nick Melville for a group exhibition entitled “Dark Design” for DesignersBlock London 2005. The chair is made from medium density fiber-wood (MDF) and pine panels with solid pine legs, polyurethane foam and wadding, and cotton canvas upholstery. No measurements were provided, but from one of the pictures and the description it can seat two people. Since the Paddy Chair was designed as a “one-off project”, it isn’t readily available, though it can be made to order via Nick Melville’s site.

The Obelisk Chairs

Filed under: Links, Other Furnishings — roclar @ 7:50 am
The Obelisk Chairs The Obelisk Chairs from Dedon are comprised of four chairs of two different sizes and a side table. When not in use, rather then having to worry about storing them or having them take up a lot of space, you can stack them in their attractive obelisk form. The chairs are comprised of a powdered aluminum frame with the exterior made out of woven polyethylene. The Obelisk Chairs are available in the pictured color “stone” from the HGTV Market Place for $8,922.

Gummy Bear Chandelier

Filed under: Art, Light & Illuminated Objects, Links, Other Furnishings — roclar @ 7:50 pm
Gummy Bear Chandelier Artist YaYa Chou really likes Gummy Bears and using them in her artwork. Included in her Gummi Bear Series is this chandelier which was constructed in 2005. This chandelier measures 21″ x 21″ x 45″ and is compsed of beads, monofilament, plastic, metal and light bulbs in addition to our gummy friends. According to the artist, Gummi bears only melt at 200 degrees, so they can withstand a lot of heat. I kind of like the 70s feel of the illuminated gummies. I wish I knew how many bears are in this piece.
